The Association of Managers of Guatemala (AGG) celebrated the sixteenth edition of the “Manager of the Year 2022” awards, where Juan Luis Bosch Gutiérrez was recognized for his business career.
This award is in honor of businesspeople who through their work have positively impacted Guatemala, through their vision, vast experience and their exemplary life for the new generations. The event held in Guatemala City also recognized several outstanding Guatemalan entrepreneurs in categories such as innovation, human development, productivity, business and social entrepreneurship.
“We want to continue innovating and continue generating a positive impact throughout the region, now that we are in 16 countries. It has been a great challenge and a great honor to lead the corporation, together with a great team of executives. Our duty and our commitment are maintaining this family legacy and continue to uphold the name of our ancestors and our legacy,” said Bosch Gutiérrez, during his words of gratitude for the recognition. He also recalled the roots of the Corporation founded by his grandfather, Juan Bautista Gutiérrez, which are reflected in the REIR values (Responsibility, Excellence, Integrity and Respect) and also thanked the team of over 40,000 employees who are now part of the CMI family.
For over 50 years, Juan Luis Bosch Gutiérrez has led the growth and business expansion strategies of CMI, Corporación Multi Inversiones. He is currently Chairman of CMI Capital, CMI’s business group, together with Juan José Gutiérrez Mayorga, Chairman of CMI Foods.
Founded in Guatemala in 1920 by Juan Bautista Gutiérrez, CMI is a family-owned multi-Latin company, a regional benchmark for innovation and sustainability with operations in 16 countries and a family of more than 40 thousand employees.

Throughout his business career and thanks to his vision and leadership, he has been part of several Guatemalan institutions contributing to the development of the country. He has been director of Banco Industrial, in addition to presiding over the Chamber of Industry of Guatemala (CIG) and the Coordinating Committee of Agricultural, Commercial, Industrial and Financial Associations (CACIF), where he made significant contributions to the innovation of these institutions.
He is currently a member of the Council of the Americas (COA), an organization comprised of some of the largest Blue Chip companies in the United States whose goal is to promote free trade, democracy and open markets in the Americas.
Under the leadership of Juan Luis Bosch, CMI became one of the promoters of clean energy generation in the region. In 2004, CMI’s Energy Unit was born and is currently the largest private renewable energy generator in Central America, with an installed capacity of more than 800 MW and 13 renewable energy projects with hydro, wind and solar technology in countries as diverse in the region as Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic.
In 2021, as a historic event and under its supervision, Corporación Multi Inversiones successfully placed US$700 million in Green Bonds at an interest rate of 6.250% and maturity in 2029, and closed a syndicated loan of $300 million to refinance its debt, in celebration of CMI’s 100th anniversary.
This is the largest green bond placement by a renewable energy company in Central America and the Caribbean to date, and marks CMI Energy’s entry into the international capital markets, with the largest and most diversified private 100% renewable energy pipeline in Central America and the Caribbean.
