CMI continues to take actions in favor of environmental sustainability. Among its efforts is the issuance of renewable energy certificates known as IRECs.
These certificates are issued through CMI Energy, part of the CMI Capital group, led by Chairman Juan Luis Bosch. Corporación Multi Inversiones (CMI) is a multi-Latin company that has been generating economic, social, and environmental value in all the communities where it operates for more than 100 years.
CMI Energy is dedicated to the development, design, execution, operation and commercialization of electric power generation projects using renewable resources in the Central American region. It has an installed capacity of more than 800 MW in the region thanks to its hydro, solar and wind power plants.
“I am very optimistic. Years ago, I proposed that we wanted to generate 1,000 MW, and today we are almost generating 900 MW. We will continue to grow. Giving our countries clean energy is very important, but also contributing to price stability and competitiveness.” Juan Luis Bosch commented in an interview conducted by Estrategia & Negocios.
IREC certificates are acquired by companies as part of their initiative to reduce their environmental impact. They declare that the electricity consumed by the companies comes from renewable sources.
The International REC Standard is the entity that endorses generators or energy traders for the issuance of certificates. CMI Energy’s registered plants that are currently issuing these certificates are:
Trading this type of certificates allows CMI Energy to diversify its product portfolio and create businesses adjacent to power generation.
“We believe that the electricity industry is evolving because of the way in which the product is consumed and managed. This initiative sets a precedent that seeks to highlight the importance of caring for the environment through actions that strengthen and reinforce the economic system and the sustainable development of countries and regions,” said Sean Porter, CMI Energy’s Director of Marketing, Development and New Businesses.
The issuance of renewable energy certificates expands CMI’s business strategies and also promotes environmental sustainability in the development of companies in the region.
