CMI, Corporación Multi Inversiones, announced the completion of financing provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), support that strengthens CMI Foods’ operations in Central America. This backing, structured as part of a syndicated loan led by IDB Invest, will enable projects aimed at boosting employment and food security in Costa Rica, El Salvador, and Honduras.
The partnership aligns with the corporate vision led by Juan Luis Bosch Gutiérrez, Chairman of CMI’s Board of Directors, and Juan José Gutiérrez Mayorga, President Chairman of CMI Foods and Chairman Of The Board of Del Real Foods. The financing consolidates an approach that integrates sustainability, competitiveness, and a clear purpose of generating opportunities that change lives.
Financing That Drives Employment and Strengthens Food Security
The financing provided by JICA totals US$50 million, disbursed on November 21, 2025, and is part of the Project for Improving Access to Food and Promoting Employment in Central America, developed under the SAFE Program. This initiative seeks to generate direct impacts on employment, supply chains, and the region’s productive capacity.
According to Luis Pedro Recinos, Executive Director of CMI’s Corporate Office, these resources will strengthen CMI Foods’ operations across three key areas:
- Increased production capacity.
- Improved competitiveness in key markets.
- Job creation in Costa Rica, El Salvador, and Honduras.
The financial support will also enable continued infrastructure modernization, process optimization, and the development of a more diverse food industry aligned with international standards. In addition, it reinforces CMI’s commitment to sustainable practices and a long-term vision that integrates social well-being with economic development.
The Strategic Role of the JICA–CMI Partnership in the Region
JICA’s participation in this financing reflects confidence in CMI as a company committed to sustainable growth. As Japan’s official development assistance agency, JICA maintains an active presence in Central America through projects designed to improve access to food, strengthen resilience, and generate employment.
During the announcement, Ken Kubokura, JICA’s Resident Representative in Guatemala, emphasized that this collaboration helps strengthen the food supply chain, support operational diversification, and promote decarbonization within the sector.
In this context, the partnership not only finances operations but also creates a platform that connects productive initiatives with sustainability agendas and food system resilience. In addition, the joint work with IDB Invest ensures that the financing aligns with international standards for governance and impact assessment.
The financing provided by JICA represents a meaningful step forward for CMI and the communities where it operates. Beyond the financial resources, this partnership underscores confidence in a strategy shaped by the leadership of Juan Luis Bosch Gutiérrez and Juan José Gutiérrez Mayorga, and supported by CMI Foods’ work across the region.
