CMI, Corporación Multi Inversiones (CMI), a multilatina family-owned corporation with over 100 years of history, has been recognized in Issue 291 of Estrategia y Negocios Magazine as one of the “Companies for Sustainability.”
Comprehensive Sustainability Approach
CMI has adopted an integrated sustainability strategy that reduces its environmental footprint but also implements solutions that benefit its employees, suppliers, customers, and the communities where it operates. Carolina Baltodano, Director of Sustainability and Corporate Citizenship at CMI, explained that the corporation’s sustainability strategy is built on two key pillars: Sustainable Operations and Sustainable Solutions.
Sustainable Operations
This pillar focuses on minimizing the environmental and social impacts of CMI’s operations. The corporation has implemented several initiatives for water conservation, waste management, and emission reduction.
For example, through a partnership with Biopersa and Puma Energy, CMI delivered 494,000 gallons of oil and 827,000 pounds of lard from its restaurants to be converted into biodiesel in Guatemala and El Salvador.
These efforts highlight CMI’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and promoting sustainable practices.
Sustainable Solutions
This pillar aims to extend CMI’s impact by offering solutions that generate benefits for the corporation, the environment, and local communities. The focus is on “win-win” initiatives that contribute to sustainable development.
One notable example is Pradera Impulsa (Pradera Boost), part of the CMI Emprende (CMI Entrepreneurs) shared value initiative, which strengthens the capabilities of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within the Pradera Shopping Center network.
These two pillars embody the vision for development and growth led by Juan Luis Bosch Gutiérrez, Chairman of CMI Capital and part of the third generation of the family overseeing the corporation.
Positive Community Impact
Beyond its internal operations, CMI actively supports communities through various initiatives. For instance, Pradera Impulsa promotes entrepreneurship and the growth of SMEs. Since its launch in June 2022, the project has involved 20 businesses, with 65% of them led by women.
The inclusion of CMI in Estrategia y Negocios Magazine’s “Companies for Sustainability” report is a testament to the corporation’s commitment to sustainable development. Through a comprehensive strategy and effective management, CMI has successfully reduced its environmental impact while fostering practices that benefit all stakeholders.
CMI’s vision of closing gaps and advancing toward a more sustainable future reflects its dedication to generating economic, social, and environmental value across Latin America.
