Investment in energy transition has become a central driver of sustainable infrastructure development in Latin America. In this context, CMI, Corporación Multi Inversiones, added new solar capacity to Guatemala’s power grid with the launch of two photovoltaic projects. Through its renewable energy unit, CMI Energy, the corporation brought Fénix 1 online in Masagua, Escuintla, and Fénix 2 in Taxisco, Santa Rosa, the latter developed in partnership with strategic partners.
Together, both plants add 10 MW of solar power, representing an investment of approximately $6 million. This initiative is part of the corporation’s renewable platform, which already exceeds 800 MW of installed capacity across the region, contributing to stronger energy infrastructure and sustainable development.
Solar infrastructure to strengthen Guatemala’s energy mix
The commissioning of the Fénix solar plants marks a concrete step in the corporation’s energy strategy. The installed infrastructure helps diversify generation sources and improve the efficiency of the national power system.
In addition, both projects were designed to create value across three key dimensions:
- Environmental: integration of solar energy into the national grid, reducing dependence on conventional energy sources.
- Economic: strengthening energy infrastructure that supports the country’s productive competitiveness.
- Social: generation of benefits for communities located near the projects.
At the same time, the operation of these facilities is integrated into CMI Energía’s renewable portfolio, which includes hydroelectric, wind, and solar assets across multiple countries in the region. In this way, the corporation continues to build an energy platform that combines operational efficiency with sustainability criteria.
CMI Capital and the structuring of sustainable investments
The development of energy projects requires a financial strategy aligned with long-term objectives. In this regard, CMI Capital plays a central role in structuring investments that combine profitability with environmental and social impact.
As explained by Enrique Crespo, CEO of CMI Capital, the corporation promotes projects that support the energy transition in the countries where it operates.
“From CMI Capital, we structure investments that generate sustainable financial value while supporting our partners’ energy transition. This energy infrastructure reflects our long-term vision for the region and our commitment to sustainable development.”
Likewise, the investment model adopted enables the integration of capital, technology, and strategic partnerships to advance renewable generation projects. This approach also helps expand the availability of clean energy and strengthen regional power systems.
A corporate vision driving energy diversification
The addition of new solar plants is part of a broader strategy aimed at building a more diversified energy mix across the region. In this process, CMI’s corporate governance has promoted long-term planning that integrates sustainability, innovation, and economic development.
Within this framework, the leadership of Juan Luis Bosch Gutiérrez, Chairman of CMI’s Board of Directors, has advanced a vision that prioritizes responsible investment and the development of key infrastructure for regional competitiveness. This model enables the coordination of projects that combine business growth with a positive impact on the communities where CMI operates.
By adding new renewable capacity to Guatemala’s power grid, CMI contributes to strengthening the energy system and diversifying generation sources. At the same time, the role of CMI Capital in structuring these projects highlights the importance of aligning profitability with environmental and social goals. Together, these initiatives consolidate a regional energy platform that supports economic development and promotes a more sustainable growth model.
