The use of renewable energies brings economic and social benefits to the countries that implement them.
Awareness of environmental care is becoming more relevant as time goes by. This is the case of Corporación Multi Inversiones (CMI), which, through its business unit, CMI Energy, focuses on developing, designing, executing, and marketing electric power generation projects using renewable resources in Central America.
With 13 power generation projects from renewable sources located in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic, and more than 25 years of experience in this industry, CMI Energy has stood out in the region. Some of its achievements are:
-Reaching an installed energy capacity of more than 800 MW, through hydroelectric, wind and solar power plants.
-Commercialization of IREC certificates, which declare that the electricity consumed by the companies comes from renewable sources and support their environmental sustainability initiatives.
-The historic placement of green bonds for US$700 million in the international market, a financing tool that will enable the Corporation to invest in projects that promote environmental sustainability.
“CMI’s idea to start probing power generation, first through hydroelectric, and later through wind and solar, comes because industrial development needs a reliable and cost-competitive supply,” commented Juan Luis Bosch, Chairman of CMI Capital in an interview published by El Economista.
The seventh of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) seeks to ensure access to affordable, secure, sustainable and modern energy. This SDG highlights that the lack of access to energy supply and transformation systems is an obstacle to human and economic development.
According to the United Nations, the world is making progress towards achieving this goal with encouraging signs that energy is becoming more sustainable and widely available. Energy efficiency continues to improve and renewable energy is achieving excellent results in the electricity sector.
The adoption of clean energy technologies and infrastructure and investment in renewable energy resources are key to accelerating the transition to an affordable, reliable and sustainable energy system. Businesses can play an important role in renewable energy generation and also commit to meeting their operational electricity needs from renewable energy sources.
